Yamaha or Cyrus

Looking for a new CD player. I've narrowed it down to the Yamaha CD 1000 and the Cyrus CD i. Any feedback on either would be appreciated. Have been listening to albums mostly these days, but want to pick up a good deck under 2K

Music i listen to: Jazz, Classical, Rock.

Yamaha plays SACD, I do not think Cyrus does.

I chose a vintage Sony xa5400es

because: superior in many ways

many/most SACD players down-convert SACD's DSD format to PCM internally, PCM is the same specs as 'redbook' cd, 44k, the Sony does not.

Then it goes to the DAC or multiple DACs. Sony has 6 DACs, and upscales all CDs x 8, then to anti-jitter.

my thread about it here

spinner traverses over fixed dual laser: one cd, one sacd

2010 model: typically 10-12 years old, I see laser assemblies for sale, indicates

a. people want to keep em going.

prior to that I went thru many players, this beat them all!!!

here's one, make sure you get a remote

I’ve had the Cyrus CDi for 2 years before a serious upgrade recently. Highly recommended, it has the PRAT of Cyrus but is not as forward as the separate DACs from Cyrus. Highly musical and punches way above its weight. I had used it for a long time as a CD Transport and never had even tried it with its internal DAC. I only recently used it as an integrated CD player. And was very positively suprised and used it since as a stand alone CD player until my upgrade.

And just FYI, I have tried it with the PSX-R2 power supply of my Cyrus Phono Signature, I heard no discernable improvement over the stock unit. However, the addition of an Audioquest NRG-Z3 and then Audioquest Monsoon power cable hugely improved its sound. It’s a CD player that is very sensitive to it, I would recommend trying an aftermarket power cord or two if you pull the trigger.

Yamaha.

The build quality and audio is top notch.

An absolute tank of a CD player.
