Rodney Crowell with his guitarist virtuoso Joe Robinson and talented fiddler, May 29 at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA. Joe did a solo opening act. His playing is beautiful and transformative. He did his rendition of "Over The Rainbow". I was in awe. Rodney and his cohorts went on to play a long, generous set. I could have seen them again the next day.
Oh yeah, Rodney is great live! I saw him on his The Houston Kid tour, at The Roxy Theater. He was accompanied by only a guitarist and bassist, the latter Jerry Scheff (Elvis Presley, T-Bone Burnett), the absolute best bass player I've seen live. And I saw John Entwistle and Rick Danko!
Pink Martini at the Keswick Theater - second time seeing them there. Good show but the pianist (band leader) was sick which did effect the vitality of the performance. Saw them this past December. Would definitely see them again!
Last Friday night I took my wife and 13 year old son to see the U2 - Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary Tour show at Papa John's Stadium in Louisville, KY. One Republic opened the show.
All I can say is WOW! Absolutely the best stadium show I've seen in my 40 years of going to rock concerts. U2 is the biggest band in the world for a reason. They have the art of the stadium show down. So good I'm going to go to another show this year. Next one will be floor tickets (standing room) to get a different perspective on the show.
