what is wrong with my Anthem PRE 2L

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A PRE 2L COMBINED IT WITH MY ADCOM5802 AMP RIGHT AWAY IT DID'NT SOUND RIGHT SO I ORDERED 4 NEW TUBES PHILLPS 6922. INSTALLED THEM NOW SOMETIMES I GET UNBALANCED SOUND FROM THE SPEAKERS AND A VERY NOTICIBLE NOISE ALSO I NOTICED ANY KIND OF TAPPING ON THE PREAMP GOES RIGHT TO THE SPEAKERS NOT TO MENTION IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE EVEN WITH HIGH QUALITY INTERCONNECTS [TRANSPARENT SUPER XL] PLEASE ADVISE WHAT TO CHECK NEXT

How old is it? A leaky power supply capacitor can make it noisy. Also, tubes are very microphonic, tapping on the preamp will cause noise through the system just like tapping on a turntable while the system is on. There may also be a way to adjust the balance from left to right internally.
does the noise change or go away at any different volumes, does the level of the noticable noise increase or decrease with the change of the volume? Are the tubes seated very well on the circuit board?
Turn off the preamp. Wait 30 minutes. Then swap the tubes from the right channel to the left channel and vice versa. If the lower level channel changes to the other channel you will kmow that you have at least one bad tube. If it stays in the same channel then you will know that the tubes are OK, except possibly a little microphonic, and the preamp is the problem. Good Luck, Wally
