What Music Takes You There?
Wonjun posted an interesting question the other day about the difference between "you are there" and "they are here" -- see http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?htech&1004226305&read&h12&zzlSubaruguru&&#rest. The responders did such a great job, I had nothing to add to that thread, but the question did haunt me ...
I just purchased Jazz A Saint-Germain (HQJCD 45262, Higher Octave Jazz label)which is an updated, quirky visit to Parisian jazz in the 1940's and 50's. Bam! Track three (China performing Lover Man) took me to the basement of a Parisian jazz club. The acoustics were very different than those of my room. Did I hear the condensation dripping from the ceiling? Maybe I've noticed it before, but always attributed it to "they are here". Not this time -- all that was missing was the smoke. So here's the question: What songs on what albums (vinyl or cd) take you there?
