Tannoy Prestige vs Kingdom

Hi, can any of you tell the difference between Tannoy's Prestige and Kingdom line? Which line is more "audiophile"? I've seen the (now out of production) Kingdom 18 and it is huge!

Chris,

I've used both and alternate tubes and solid state all of the time. The best tube I've owned is the Jadis DA50S. The trick with tubes is find an amp with excellent bass control. I also have a primaluna Dialogue 2 with KT66's. It does quite well too. For solid state I've used LFD, Anatek Research, Naim and Linn. Right now I'm using Linn.

Hi Chris!
You on to Tannoy now?? I was using Westminster and later the Westminster HRE Royals ('92-'98). Found them best when driven by tubes, but try avoid using too high powered ones. I first used VTL Ichiban (even in their 200W triode mode), things tended to be a bit overblown--images and all, the bass especially! I had a hard time figuring ways to harness those 15" drivers from stirring up room mode/loadings.

I later used the VTL90 (90W triode - Western Electric 300Bs) which improved things significantly. And further found the magical combo with them to be when partnered with a good SET amps (preferably 300Bs based). Colored it may be, but oooh those so glowing midrange to die for, I still remembered quite vividly..
Hi Victor (Bvdiman), I'm still using Soundlabs, but I'm also interested in other alternatives, especially the big Tannoy's.
