Since MBL only makes solid state amps, it may be wise to stick with solid state. The tube amp my not have enough current to drive the MBL speakers effectively. From what I have seen and heard, they require big amps to sound their best.
Tube or Hybrid Amps for MBL 111/116 ?
Hi, any ideas for a tube/hybrid amp to drive a pair of MBL 111 or 116
speakers? They're 4 ohm impedance, with a recommended continuous power
of around 300W. Always liked the clean smooth tube sound, think it'd
sound good with the crystaline timbre of those speakers.
Some possible contenders I've found doing research: CAT JL3 (maybe a lower powered model if they make one?), AVA Fet-Valve 600-R.
Thanks Audiogon.
