NAS backup Question

I have a Synology NAS that I back up onto a 1tb hard drive. I use Logitech Media Server. If I lose the NAS, will the back up files be recognized by other non-Synology/ LMS systems?

Not very likely. The drives are usually encrypted to the enclosure. But if you had another Synology NAS of the same model if will probably be OK. As far as the LMS it should be able to read from any NAS.

This was a concern I had when I looked at a NAS. As I understand it the Synology is one of the few NAS that does not use a proprietary file system. I wanted to be able to pull a drive from the NAS and put in in my external drive case if I wanted. Also a lot of NAS don't support the newer larger size drives.

What do you mean by proprietary file system? I can't imagine that with so many file systems currently available, someone would have to make a new one yo work with a NAS.
