Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD

Hi All.

Putting together a reference level system.
My Source is predominantly standard 16/44 played from a MacMini using iTunes and Amarra. Some of my music is purchased from iTunes and the rest is ripped from standard CD's.
For my tastes in music, my high def catalogues are still limited; so Redbook 16/44 will be my primary source for quite some time.

I'm not spending DCS or MSB money. But $15-20k retail is not out of the question.

Upsampling vs non-upsampling?
USB input vs SPDIF?

All opinions welcome.

And I know I need to hear them, but getting these ultra $$$ DAC's into your house for an audition ain't easy.

Looking for musical, emotional, engaging, accurate , with great dimension. Not looking for analytical and sterile.

When I bought the Plasmatron I was thinking it was a this AND that scenario.... That has now changed and I need to actually prioritize my purchases. Don't most of you guys do that???

PS - it sucks!!!!
Matt. I don't think you owe anyone an explanation on the way you spend your money, especially on a public forum such as this. I for one want to thank you for all of the effort and time, and yes,money...that you already contributed to make this thread so rich in content. I can only dream of owning the equipment that you have bought and reviewed, but to bring along those of us interested in your audio journey is very much appreciated.

Also,on your recommendation, I bought my Veritas amps (and loving them) because of your high praise of them on this thread. Thanks, and keep on...keeping on...Mark
Yes Matt, it does suck, but for many of us, that's the way it is.  I wish I could afford an even better system, but I can live vicariously though many of you guys and visit a lot of dealers whom I know and don't seem to mind me not purchasing with every trip.

Those are good questions and ones that many of us were wondering about a bit I'm sure. Takes nothing away from my thoughts about your posts, but congrats on the office building.  That's a great thing I'm sure.

Matt - I recently built an ODSX for a customer that did not care about 176 or 192 file playback, so I installed my new XMOS USB interface in it for him. This is the first one like this. This combo is simply incredible. Hands-down the best SQ I have ever heard, from analog or digital sources. Even really old tracks, like Peter Frampton live sound amazing. He also ordered my Power Block USB cable supply to go with it, which makes a big difference.

I am still working hard on my new Ethernet interface, which supports all formats, PCM and DSD. I should have one running in the next week I hope. This I think will be the default interface for the ODSX.

Steve, will that USB module ever be available for public consumption or will Ethernet be the new interface king?
