Anthem AVM 30 or Emotiva UMC-1

I currently own an Anthem AVM-30 which I use primarily for home theater. I have a separate two channel system. My issue is that I am tired of manually pushing the two separate 3-HDMI switches that I have for the 5 following pieces of equipment. (Sony Play Station 3, Oppo BDP-83SE, Verizon FIOS, Apple Mac Mini and D-Link Boxee). I heard that the Emotiva sells direct and was wondering if it is a myth that the $699 UMC-1 is equivalent to the $2999 AVM 30. Also, one of my primary reasons for switching is that I can do away with the two HDMI switch boxes and simply use the inputs on the UMC-1. Unfortunately, I will have to get new S/E cables or adapters instead of balanced cables. Am I missing anything important?

This thread will start a rather vigourous discussion amongst many members and it will probably get really dirty. You may not get an answer to your question. One A'gon member who has had good experiences with the UMC-1 is Robbob. Search for his ID and send him an e-mail. That may be the best way to get an answer to your query. Also too if you can maybe just take Emotiva up on their 30 day return policy that could be a way for you to see if the UMC-1 will work in your system and is bug free. Yeah it sucks that you have to pay for shipping back if you don't like it but if it works out you saved a bunch. If you need XLR adapters there is a member here, Ehaus, that sells quality adapters @ reasonable prices.

Good luck.
I would wait until a couple of good reviewers test it,and give their opinion. You have a nice unit now.I think they have remote switchers.
I find it ironic that one member said you may not get a honest answer so ask Rob who wouldnt say a bad thing about Emo if they killed his dog.
I am not going to stir up that tired arguement but just giving you a warning, a bias is a bias no matter what side it falls on.
Check the Emotiva forums for the CURRENT status on the UMC-1 and it's now repaired bugs. There are people here who lie like rugs. I have clearly pointed out negative aspects of Emotiva gear (which I own) and better/lesser gear (which I also own). For Example, I don't suggest using Emotiva for music only. But then I wouldn't reccomend Rotel, Parasound, Anthem, Outlaw, Bryston either. I'm in the tube camp for serious listening.

Don't let anyone sway you either way. Do research on the CURRENT unit and then make a decision for a test drive.

All I can say is that I wish I had all the money back wasted on those overpriced processors. And again, I'm suggesting you WAIT for the newer unit and NOT buy the UMC-1 if possible.

The resident trolls will attempt to skew this advice. Like I said: Do your own research on the unit's performance today.
