Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
John Prine - "For Better, or Worse"  I love John Prine. I've got tickets to see him again in March. However, I don't love this album of duets. There are a lot of fine female singers on the record, however they just don't sound right accompanying JP on this recording. Anyone else heard it? Thoughts?

I know what you mean, reubent. Prine is a fine songwriter, and a singer with his own identifiable style and sound, rough as it is. But he, like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Bob Dylan, is really difficult to sing harmony with. His phrasing is just so unpredictable and erratic, that staying in synch with him is impossible!

If you're lucky, John's pal Iris Dement may appear with him as a guest. They often share the stage with each other.

@bdp24 - Thanks for the reply. I believe you are onto something regarding trying match the timing/phrasing of John Prine. Just can't do it. But in addition to that, the female vocals on this record almost sound like they were recorded differently from Prine's. Very distracting to me.....

It would be great if Iris shows up in March. She's a great talent.
Was record store day for me. Just back from Plaid Room Records with the following:

Chip Taylor - "This Side of the Big River"
The Beatles - "Revolver"
Hot Tuna - "HOPPKORV"
Pete Townshend - "Empty Glass"
Bob Dylan - "Slow Train Coming"
Genesis - "And Then There Were Three"
Shovels and Rope - "Swimming' Time"
Lucinda Williams - "Little Honey" (new)
Marty Stuart - "Way Out West" (new)

I hope to get to all of them tonight or over the weekend......
I love "Slow Train Coming". Lucinda does a killer version of "It’s a Long Way to the Top" on Little Honey! Someone gave me a very clean copy of "And Then There Were Three" that I’ve yet to clean & play. Sounds like fun!

Iris Dement and Greg Brown are married right? Is Pieta Brown, Iris’s daughter or step? I own "One and All".. a very good lp and very nice sonics.
