McIntosh MR78 Question

Hi, I have a McIntosh MR78, for the time being I have some lower end audioengine powered speakers connected to it. My question, is it better to run the fixed output from the MR78 to the speakers and control the volume at the speaker or connect from the MR78 to the speakers from the rca's that use the volume knob on the front of the tuner? If the latter, what volume do you set the speakers to? full volume, half?

P.S: I subsequently found the owner’s manual for the MR78 online, and in it a statement that "the load impedance connected to the Front Panel Controlled jacks should not be less than 47,000 ohms." That would seem to pretty much clinch what I said in my previous post.

I also have a (mac78) with a similar set up in my (guest room) i control it with the speaker volume and it works fine
