My outboard tube preamp for my Technics 1500 could use a bit more gain, am considering a SUT and have been told by the many wiser than me that the head impedance is a significant factor. Can not find this number anywhere. Many thanks, LS
If you are using a low-output mc cartridge a SUT with a 1:10 X ratio will do wonders for improving your SQ! Bellari is a good recommendation (I have one). USA - made and reasonably priced ($300+).
Sorry I assumed that all would know, this is a Technics 1500 reel to reel. My apologies. Anyone know the head impedance for this popular reel to reel deck?
All solid state reel to reel machines have low impedance heads. In this case the head was made specifically for this machine, so sorting out what the actual impedance is will likely have to be done by measurement.
However an SUT will do the job; but for best results its output will have to be loaded properly. This will deal with whatever the actual head inductance is.
