Speaker wire... Diy?

I am new to this, so please bare with me. I always thought 12 gauge speaker wire, bare on each end, was best. But there is Kimber, Nord, etc, that seem to be incrementally better! Can I buy the components and put together my own $17000 speaker wires? If so, where can they be purchased, and which are good enough to be used? Which terminations are best for sound? Which wire? Length? Guage?

I think many of us here if here to learn and share about DIY stuff with regards to our audios. As long as we are learning we should keep on trying. As we try new things, we discover new knowledge and skills, and that's the best part of it. We can the share what we have learned to others.
Well, actually they’re not really passing music through them but that kind of opens up a whole new can of worms. 😛
You mean a can of electrons, don’t you GK?  Tell us how they flow...cause I really wanna know...I really wanna know ..know..know..know...how they do!!
See what I did there...used a WHO motif and stuff?  Pretty cool right?
This isn’t multiple choice, but I’ll give you two more choices anyway.
My Kimber cables came today. I have one speaker run with Kimber, one with regular old lampcord speaker wire. I honestly don't hear any difference. Both ends of the kimbers are banana clips. They just slide into the hole, yes? Not into the hole in the threaded post?
