Last night I dug deep into the record vault and pulled out a real gem. It was an album recorded in 1956 on the Pacific Jazz label. The artists were Bud Shank on alto and flute, the great Claude Williamson on piano, Chuck Flores on drums and Don Prell on bass.

The album? "The Bud Shank Quartet.

Bud Shank and Claude Williamson were long-time regulars at the Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach, California during the 1950s. On their many albums, you will find some of the best West Coast jazz ever recorded.  Pacific Jazz and Contemporary recorded some of the best sound ever.

Here's a wonderful Lighthouse Allstar album.

Interesting article. I liked it.
Makes sense in a group setting (like a jury?).
Would be interested in hearing if others on this site have changed their opinion based on a statement of another poster.
