How about a used VPI Scout?
Sent Back the Pro-ject Turntable: What would be the best option in the $1800 range?
I wasn't crazy about the sound quality so I sent it back.

I like VPI though there are some quarks with my table that took time to figure out. I'd go for a used Prime. The reason I like VPI is they have been around a long time, the tables are upgradable, the motor is outboard and mine is a monster. All of this is subjective though as I have only been around my table and a Dr. Feickert.
