Last night’s video was the Magnepan 20.7s with Gryphon Mephisto.
There were many things that i liked about it:
What i did not like?
That said, the space that the 20.7 needs to create the incredible the tall, wide & deep presentation of the Alexia 2 will be far greater. Look, it is a big speaker and there is no way around it. You must have the space to let them breathe and transport you into the music and this can complicate things for those of you without a dedicated room or enough space in your living rooms. However, i want to remind you all, i STILL BELIEVE the Magnepan 20.7 is crazy good for the money. It does things that NO OTHER SPEAKER that i have owned can do and they are A TON OF FUN. Can they replace my Alexia 2s? absolutely not, but if i were in a position where i needed to downsize, financial issues, etc and needed to buy something cheaper, i would probably get the 20.7 and use subwoofers with it. I do not believe there is a speaker that can compete with it for the money. This is like the "luxman" of speakers when it comes to bang for the money.
As far as aesthetics, i know, i know, it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and neither is Vivid Audio for some of you or even Wilson Audio. You are not going to make an interior designer happy with the 20.7s in your room, but if you can open your minds and overlook the aesthetics, you won’t be disappointed.

My next video will either be the Magnepan Again WITHOUT the Merrill Preamp and just go Dac direct into the Mephisto while keeping the rest the same OR the Martin Logan 13a will make their first appearance. Stay tuned for more.
In addition to that, in case you are all wondering, i am still waiting on the Critical Mass stand for my Gryphon Mephisto (they said 3-4 weeks to build it), Gryphon Pandora preamp will hopefully be here by the end of this month and i have purchased 3 more Audioquest Dragon HC powercords to round out my system.
There were many things that i liked about it:
- mids
- height of the presentation
- shockingly, the separation was quite incredible
- The beauty & musicality of a ribbon tweeter is special indeed
What i did not like?
- The lack of visceral impact that the wilson is known for
- The "surround sound" effect that the Alexia 2 manages to do from a shorter cabinet
- Sweet-spot is not exactly as wide as with Alexia 2.
- The sound is more directional so in order to make them sound less directional you almost have to spread them apart even more in order to create the "wider" presentation of the alexia 2.
