Holo Audio May DAC

Just read a very nice review of this in Stereophile this month and after doing some research it looks like this one could be a very nice option for me.

It's made in China I think (or could be Taiwan?, and yes, I am very well aware that these are two very different countries. ;)), and employs a direct to consumer model to keep the price as low as possible.  This does not worry me after purchasing a Jay's Audio transport from Vinshine Audio and having zero issues.

Just curious if anyone here has heard one or purchased?  I'm very intrigued.  I know the Denafrips Terminator is another highly regarded DAC with a similar ordering model, but costs a couple grand more than this one.  Considering that one as well.

Thanks

@nquery  Very nice write up on the comparison!  Thanks.  I am enjoying this.

This DAC is amazing. Fed native pcm and dsd (no up or over sampling), in NOS mode, it wipes the floor with my PS Audio Directstream, with almost zero break in. And the PS Audio is a very good dac.
I played the piano and went to a lot of classical music concerts, so I know what live instruments sound like.

Simply wonderful. Thank you Holo Audio and Jeff Zhu !!

Hi,

Just ordered the May a few days ago. Also been using PS DSD with Sunlight. Could you provide some detail on the differences between the 2 DACs?
I am not good at audiophile descriptions. It just sounds like what I hear at classical music concerts, and compared to the DS: bigger soundstage, more air, more acoustics of the recording space, more precise/less boomy bass, amazing cristalline clarity overall.
