Surge protector without line conditioner
I've been using a Zero Surge 8R15W-I for the past 7 years and find it to be non-intrusive with source components. It gives me a peace of mind, but I question whether it's necessary as I live in the SF Bay Area and lightening strikes are extremely uncommon. I plug my amp directly into the wall and haven't had any problems doing so. The Zero Surge website has good information: https://zerosurge.com/surge-suppression/ |
I really don’t think the Zero Surge is right for the Krell. I own a Brick Wall (same design) and the sonics of my 300wpc Sunfire amp suffered. Dynamics were affected and the amp sounded anemic. These power conditioners use filtering which is excellent for lowering noise on low-current sources, but cant handle powerful amps. Many manufacturers of these passive conditioners state that they are non-current limiting, but will limit the dynamics of high powered amps. Look at Tripp Lite power strips. |
dilly3364, I was faced with the same issue. The Tripp-Lite Spike Cube thread (link below) may be of interest to you. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/tripp-lite-spike-cube |
