Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

@jafant I bought it new around 2002 from some dealer in Boston if I recall correctly. I had it in storage (in a closet) for about 5 years when  I did not have a system.

Very nice!  ModWright are excellent products. Equally, the Bryston 1.7 is my fave pre/pro. I love its simple design and implementation.

You are fortunate to own an EMM Labs DAC as well.

Nice! essentially, you purchased a new player back in 2002. Havingit modded certainly extended its life. Incredible that these players are still selling on the secondary marketplace. Sony really over-built this Reference spinner.

Happy Listening!
yyz - Bill didn't actually make a very firm recommendation. He said that this unit, the SCD-1 has a thermal dissipation problem, which he elevated to a design flaw that shortens its life. He acknowledged that most audiophiles leave their gear up 24/7, and that is generally best because thermal cycling is what does the damage. When I probed, he said that knowing what he has seen over the years, he would probably take a hybrid approach, leaving it up when in steady use, but shutting it down when it would be unused for awhile. He didn't specify how long awhile is. I would conjecture that a couple to a few days might be awhile.

Thank You for Bill's rationale. In my collection, Ayre and Marantz players have a stand-by mode when not at playback. The Accuphase does not.

All (3) are Reference players in their own right.
I can hardly await to see which Player/Transport you add to Hot Rod Garage.
