McIntosh C49 accessing menu via Remote Control

This may seem like a basic question, but how do you access the menu on the C49 via the remote control? I’d like to make adjustments from my listening chair and not from the preamp. One would think to press and hold the input button on the remote  but that just scrolls through the inputs or press the setup button and than input…? Is it possible to access the menu via the remote control? Am I missing something?

Thanks for any advice!

A Setup Feature is provided to customize the operating settings using the Front Panel Information Display. Refer to the C49 Front Panel Illustration on the previous page while performing the following steps.

Read your book buddy. It's not the easiest to follow, but read pages 12,13,14 a few times..

Yeah, I understand how to access the "Operating Settings" via the front panel using the knobs of the C49, but the question was to access them via the remote and to make changes. I did call McIntosh, and speaking with a tech specialist (Ron) all you have to do is hit the trim button on the remote to access the controls.  Like Ron said, this needs to be highlighted in the manual much better than saying...

"Press the Trim Push-button and then the LEVEL UP Push-button to select and adjust various functions." (Page 10, under trim)

I feel the manual is written to make changes via the front panel of the preamp and should also include how to do this via remote as well.

I went through the same thing renaming and setting the gains correctly per device on a C2500. I'm just glad they had the option. Made a lot of difference. I never did use the remote. I changed from a C20 to a C2500. There was a heck of a learning curve. I love that remote though.

The one issue I have is remote assignment. I have a few Macs the remote on one will change the setting on the other, MX150 and C2500. I haven't used the surround in 10 years. The only reason it's there, the C2500 is in for a repair.
I'll be going through the two day set up when it comes back. Be nice if it had access through a laptop or a smartphone for a working KB input. Maybe it does.!?

The bass system I use has easy access via laptop. Set in the drivers seat and listen to the changes. Pretty cool actually.

Enjoy in any case.

@oldhvymec The C2500 and C2600 were both on my list when I was upgrading my preamp and I did audition both of them, but ultimately I went with the C49. I have yet to go through setting my gains on the inputs, but I will. For now I’m just enjoying the music.

If I understand your statement correctly about “Remote Assignment”  you might be able to do what you want by using the second set of codes that are on your remote. The Remote Control included with the C2500 utilizes the NORMal McIntosh Control Codes. The Second Set of Control Codes the C2500 will respond to is referred to as the ALTernate Codes. The ALTernate Codes are used when the C2500 is used in the same location as another McIntosh Preamplifier and/or A/V Control Center. This will prevent the Remote Con- trol from affecting the operation of both units at the same time.
I’d copy and paste the steps but the manual has images as well that might be useful if you end up trying it. The steps are on page 19.

My wishlist would be to have an HDMI output on the Preamp to hookup a TV/monitor to access a more user friendly GUI ( Graphical User Interface).  It could be used for setup and display information. Ultimately, you could use the up, down, left and right cursors on the remote to navigate around the interface and it could tell you information like bitrate of files, file type, file size, and any other nerdy stats. It would also make it easier to make changes to the inputs and gains as well as tone controls.  Kinda what’s like on most Surround Sound Preamps of today.

I hope your preamp comes back from repairs soon!
