Wadia 861as transport with non-Wadia DACs

Would like to hear specific examples where people have fed Wadia 861 digitial output (or perhaps 270 transport) into a non-Wadia DAC. What type/format of cable for best results? Any problems with compatibility (e.g. issues with Wadia Clocklink feature)? Thanks.

According to Steve of Great Northern Sound, Wadia transport and DAC are made to sound best w/ its Clocklink feature. You should give him a call for he knows more about Wadia than anybody else.

Nick: Thanks. Indeed, Steve advises against using the 861 in this way. However, using a 270 as transport with non-Wadia DAC is doable. So I'd like to hear of anyone's experience with such a setup.

Why should one use the 861 as a transport only, while it is designed as transport + DAC? Is it not like throwing away money by using the unit as such?
