Ceramic caps are distortion magnets. Replace all of them.
They are the very 1st thing I get out of any equipment that I am looking to modiy/upgrade.
Anyone replace ceramic caps with film?
Looking to replace some tiny generic ceramic caps with an Amtrans AMCH polypropylene film. The value is 220pF, so I haven't found many audio-grade choices in this range.
I'm _assuming_ almost any upgrade from a generic Mouser part to an audio-grade one is worth it, but anyone done this can tell me how it sounds?

Thanks for the responses. I spoke to the circuit designer and he said he used them because they are cheap and last a long time. He said the Amtrans film caps I found look great. Never assume. :) I'll do some listening tests and hopefully the film are an improvement. Its in a feedback circuit in an opamp. |
That reminded me a discussion about four and a half years ago: levinson has odd choice for cap upgrades in one of their service bulletins
@pragmasi is exactly correct! The X7R ceramic cap’s ESR allows the cap itself to damp any ringing/resonance.
