Well boys and girls here's an update in my quest to get my Marantz SA-7s1 repaired.
First, I would like to thank everyone here who tried to assist in this endeavor.
I have contacted about twenty repair facilities, including almost all the Marantz authorized shops, and the news isn't encouraging. Most of the independent shops were kind enough to let me know that Marantz no longer supports my eleven year old, former flagship spinner with parts or technical info. The rest (mostly the Marantz authorized shops) all want to inspect the unit and evaluate the nature of the repair. Of course they want me to ship them my unit, pay a non-refundable deposit before they will inevitably give the same bad new as the more honest shops have already done. To say this is a major pain in the rear, not to mention a huge disappointment, is an understatement.
This unit is my forth Marantz spinner but I guaranty you it will be my last. The two less expensive units were bullet proof but the two "Reference" models both failed and could not be repaired to original operation because parts were no longer available. It's unfortunate because I do love the musicality of their spinners.
My recommendation to all who own a Marantz player is to enjoy it while you can but be prepared for the inevitable. Eventually you will own a very expensive brick.
Esoteric, here I come!!
Enjoy the music,
Dale
