CD Player with volume control that does not reset

I have a denon cd player that has variable out and I currently feed that directly into my amp. Ultimatly I intend on getting a Bryston BP-25P... however I might have to wait a while until one pops up on the open market... However, back to the issue at hand... I thus need some volume control from the cd player... however the denon volume resets to line level if it goes off by power failure or the power button...

I would like to know about variable out units that do not reset the volume level when they go off...?? anybody? Oh yeah... I wanna spend less than 1K.
