Help ? with upgrade to budget system

I want to upgrade my system to accomodate my new larger listening room (was 12x10x8'h....now is 16x30 with a 23ft ceiling). Curently I have a Cambridge Audio A-500 integrated, Cambridge Audio D-500SE CD, Tannoy R1 speakers (pair) with a Tannoy TD12 sub. I listen to ambient, classical, rock & pop....a range of music. My budget would be around $3000.

I like what I've been reading about the B&W 603 s3 speakers and I'm more inclined towards a clean pure sound and don't need really LOUD volume.... so any ideas ?

Wow! Dynaudio, Bel Canto, and Arcam. Well done Jeff. Don't you love it when a plan comes together? Enjoy your new system and don't sweat the cables. After all---ahhhh....the music!

You're going from a 960ft3 room to one over 11,000ft3. You're going to need a much bigger speaker to fill that space at even moderate levels. You're also going to need a speaker with controlled directivity - horns. That means either vintage Altec, JBL, or some of the newer JBLs, like the 4367. If you can find a pair of Altec Model 19s, JBL L-200 or L-300 you would have a great match for your room. Small stand speakers like your Tannoys or the Dynaudio 1.3se are fine in their intended environments, like your old room, but not in an 11,000 ft 3 room. Unless you never plan on sitting more than 6 or 8 feet away.

Holy necro-thread, Bat Man!
