Esoteric k01 or Esoteric k05x

It would be possible to buy both for the same price. The older flagship Esoteric K01 Limited, or a more recent K05X et. Which one is better in terms of sound quality?

There is a volume button on the remote control (which, of course, was made for larger models). I don't currently have a preamp, so I can buy one if I can control the volume with it. Thanks!
