Denafrips Pontus II 1.4 Firmware

Hi All,

I have a Denafrips Pontus II purchased in 2022.  I love the DAC and haven't wanted to mess with it, but some new equipment has me thinking it might be time to finally upgrade to the 1.4 firmware.  Unfortunately, it looks like Vinshine has dropped their support for it since their split with Denafrips and I can't find it anywhere.  I hope this is allowed, but is anyone with the file and upgrade instructions willing to send them to me?

Thanks in advance!

*** DO NOT UPGRADE UNTIL ***

You verify the version of your FPGA chip. Look for the number on the programable “ALTERA” chip. I also have EP4CE6F. If you upgrade the wrong firmware version, you will “brick/break” your Pontus II.

If you like what you’re already hearing, don't mess with it. With Vinshine’s departure, I don’t know if Denafrips will support our older units and Vinshine can only do so much if you break it.

PS:  I personally prefer V1.3 over 1.4

I confirmed my chip version - also EP4CE6F - and secured the upgrade file.  I followed the instructions and did the upgrade this morning.  All seems well and I will test in my system this evening.  Thanks to all for the input!

For what it is worth, I have nothing but good things to say about Alvin and the fine folks at Vinshine Audio.  A class act all the way around.

I have a Pontus II 12th with the EP4CE6F FPGA and upgrading to FW v1.4 did not provide good results. The skipping/microskipping issue that others have noted, which had not been an issue previously, suddenly appeared. The skipping was so frequent that it rendered the DAC unusable for playing CDs. The issue occurred with two different CD transports on both the coax and opt connections. Reverting to FW v1.0 caused the skipping issue to disappear. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there some other way forward which would allow the FW upgrade without the skipping issue?

Thank you
