I am using one with my Basis 2001 and it works fine. My only quibble is that the speed adjustment pot is so fine that turning it a hairs breath changes the speed quite a bit. But you can get the speed right and it does hold it well.
Does VPI ADS work with Basis Gold Debut?
Anybody out there have experience with adding a speed control to a Basis Gold Debut? Will an ADS (VPI) work with this turntable? I would like not to have to change the pulley for 45rpm., plus take advantage of more stable speed. Basis own speed control is beyond what I'm willing to spend, and of course Basis will not answer whether the ADS will operate with their turntable.

The ADS is old technology so far as even VPI is concerned. I think it predates the SDS, which is in turn superseded by other superior devices. However, if you perceive it to be beneficial, there is no harm in using it (that I know of, anyway). For max benefit, I would use the Basis speed controller made by Basis for Basis TTs. |
@lewm , the ADS is VPI’s latest motor controller. It replaced the SDS. Rumour has it that SOTA will be reviving the old Phoenix Eagle / Roadrunner for a single phase AC synchronous motor. SOTA’s current motor controller (Eclipse) is for their 3-phase Condor motor. |
