Great record! From one of the greatest singers of all time. From a more subjective point of view, as one professional reviewer I once read correctly points out, Sinatra was much more than the “tough guy image” that he projected. What the reviewer doesn’t point out is that after 1970, the year that the album was recorded was about the time that this image crept obviously into his delivery of a song. There are very few, if any, Sinatra recordings that I don’t like, but it was his pre-1970 (or so) recordings that I love.
Sinatra Watertown
I woke early this morning, hit the radio, and a song from Watertown came on; that reminded me that I have that recording, had not played it in way to long, always loved it, and so I played it again and again.
I find it amazing from a number of perspectives, including that the music was written by Bob Gaudio, probably best known as a member of the 4 Seasons.
This is a great recording of great music and lyrics, a themed-record telling a sad story. Was not a hit when released but time has changed most people's views on its value. I've always loved it as one of my Sinatra favorites (along with A Man Alone, songs of Rod McKuen).
