Bad idea?

I really don't want to spend over $1000 for a pair of speaker cables especially when I don't need them 8 ft long. Would it be a bad idea to buy just one cable and cut it in half. One side would be bananas with the other side bare wire?

Thanks

@bzawa Bulk twin conductor 12AWG is readily available as are easy to terminate connectors of high quality in banana and spade for relatively little money that would be more than suitable for your application.

Or you could just get these https://www.svsound.com/products/soundpath-ultra-speaker-cable which are pretty nice in whatever length and terminations you choose times two $.

Used cables are your friend.  These are excellent cables for only $425 shipping included and no cutting required.  If they don’t work out you can turn around and sell them for little/no loss so very low risk to try.

Make this a DIY project.  It's easy and you get a nice sense of accomplishment doing something for yourself?  Have a look at all the cable options at a place like

Cheers.

There are lots of good cables out there, used, in different lengths and well under your budget...
