CODA 8 V1

I used to have this amp, and yes it is very good. I asked Coda the same question and here is the explanation:

The switch sets the 0 dB point to 5 or 300 Watts as indicated on the front.  At low levels the difference may be minimal on efficient speakers.
 

I may be thick this AM, not woken yet. I don't understand.  I am running Tekton (upgraded) Encores , quite efficient, 93 to 95, Listened for first time yesterday. I listen to Rock only, and seem to listen at about 90db.The meters are showing, if I read them correctly, on softer passages quite low, and on higher, more demanding (AC/DC for example) 35 to 40 watts?  15' away in large room. It replaced a PASS X250.8.(In another system now)  The Pass needle never moved out of class A. with any music. I'm guessing that I 'm exceeding the V1 class A limit of 18watts, don't know if that 18 doubles into 4 ohm speakers????  I love my PASS ( would never sell) but, truthfully thsi used CODA 8 is actually better,at least for my Rock and Roll. @robshaw An A/B amp with 18 class A watts into 8 ohms = 9 class A watts into 4 ohms.

Don’t worry about class a or a/b. Coda is excellent. There’s barely any difference with Pass or Coda when these amps transition out of Class A. 

Thanks all for the posts.  I spoke with the the salesman about it this AM. He explained about the scale not being what I thought it was. Have a much better understanding now. Will most likely use  the buttons that change to green, that represent the lower scale,  I mentioned to the salesman on that scale, earlier,that I was seeing about 30 to 40 watts. He stated that  actually represents about 10 to 12 watts being used, still in class A. REGARDLESS, WHAT AN AMP!!!!
