Do you have a speaker that’s not a big name maker but punches above its weight? Why?

I have a Gato Fm6. My reference for last 10 years. Sounds amazing. Designer used to work for Gamut. Amazing clarity. Great open midrange and vapor like treble that’s detailed , transparent and vapor like!  What are others?

Salk Sound may not be a big name, and they stopped production a year or two ago, but they have a reputation for excellent sound coming from furniture-grade cabinets.

Why ? Because Jim Salk was dedicated (perhaps obsessed) with using the best components available, and the best sounding and best looking cabinets. I'm listening to a pair of his HT2-TL now and they do so many things right. Could be the last speakers that I ever buy. Unless it's another pair of Salks.

Could we substitute "Big value" for "big name"?  If so my vote is for any Maggie. WAY more sound quality dollar for dollar. It's hard to think of this venerable name as not a big name (it is) but for what they delver vs. what they cost- just WOW!

Nestorovic Labs 5AS. Not very well known, get nothing but excellent reviews on any audio forum. They have always sounded so musical and perfect, they are still my forever speaker. The original owner paid $3600 in 1986.

I dunno, maybe this'll get a few laughs or snickers, but here goes.  I have a fairly entry level high-end 5.1 HT system - Marantz electronics, Mirage mains, Paradigm everything else, and I never cease to be wowed by the Mirage OM-9 mains when used for the purpose I bought them for - live concert videos.  That sentiment has been echoed by a few audiophile friends, including one who sold equipment at a high-end audio store in my area and introduced me to Mirage.  Critics say the "somewhere over there" imaging isn't to their liking, and that's fair, but when do you get the kind of precise imaging everyone likes to tout at a live, amplified event like a jazz/blues/rock concert?  That's what I built my system for - reproducing the live concert experience as much as possible in my living room, and nothing I've heard does that better than the Mirage bi/omnipolar speakers, the OM-9s in particular.  The amount of first-class sound they deliver for the price they listed for is the bargain of the century for reproducing the live experience.

Closest to "LIVE" that I ever heard. Roberto Guererro had them paired up with his AGD amps and  the musicality of the OCEAN WAY EUREKA Speakers was simply stunning !
