Jay’s Audio Lab is shutting down

Not sure why except he says he’s getting a bigger building somewhere.

@facten

I read one of the 3 "gushing" threads you linked because I feel more A/B testing of cables is needed. Also, it was pretty short.

I didn't see any gushing in it, to the contrary, but I certainly noticed this:

I buy more expensive cables because the more money I spend the better it makes me feel.

A fundamental truth if there ever was one, gentlemen.

I agree with a few comments that he’s likely moving to Texas. I think the GR Research visit triggered an epiphany. You could see the look of envy throughout the video. Let’s make no mistake Jay is doing this as a business. Whatever will generate clicks and views is where the channel will go. I appreciate that he takes on the level of gear he does but I always found that in his room he’s not even experiencing what that gear can fully do. Not saying it sounds bad but some of that stuff is really designed to sound great in large spaces. You can get sound just as good with gear built for the size of his space. It’s like he’s driving a Lamborghini in 5pm traffic. Sure it’s still a cool car and you can get a few moments of joy but until you get it on the track you’re not experiencing what it can really do.

I enjoy Jay's videos because he gives us a close look at some really great equipment that we don't always see on YouTube. It seems the channels are endless that show $300 amps, but not many at the ultra high end. Even thought I'm not in the market for $200k speakers or $150k amps, I find it interesting and he has some decent deals on used gear.

I don't know what his deal is with manufacturers, but I've heard him point out negative aspects of some of this equipment, something you won't often find from the mags or most YouTubers. I discount Jay's subjective opinions, but I do that with most reviewers-no one can tell you what will sound the best to your ears.

I rate Jay several notches above Huff in credibility, but I'm not in to communing with the dead-if that's your thing, all the power to you.

So, good luck to Jay.
