There are remote codes on remotecentral for various California Audio remote controls. Do you know what model remote can with the player? They have codes for CL-5, CL-10, CL-20 and CL-25. If you have the right codes you should be able to use most universal remotes.

From looking at some pictures on line it looks like it might be a CL-10. remotes.com has a replacement remote. I just found this site by searching - I know nothing about it.
The first CD player I ever bought was Technics 555 and that remote worked with my Icon II.
The different universal remotes say they have a lot of codes and name brands, but a lot of these (audio) companies have someone else make the remote part for them. Even if they list your brand, it could be hit or miss, and may only work some functions. That company that makes them for a specific model, is something I haven't tried and can't make a comment. I use a universal learning remote to save the wear on the factory ones, plus convenience. I just let it learn what I need from the factory remote. If it's something that is mass produced like a TV, or other high volume product, then the odds are a lot better for a pre-programmed universal.
This is one of those companies that have remotes that they claim do the same. I never tried any of these replacement types, but may give it a try if needed in the future. [http://remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&mode=brand&brand=California%20Audio&uuid=A13160070164611]
According to the Logitech Harmony compatibility database their remotes do support the Icon MkII. From the first drop-down choose 'Music player' and then 'CD player.' California Audio Labs is then a choice from the second drop-down menu.

eCost has some refurbished Harmony remotes at pretty good prices.
