Groovey,my best advise is to try to read up on as many of these designs as you can. Then try(if possible)to hear some,in systems. Not easy, these days.Look for as little bearing resonance as posible, since this will color sound. The business of ball race bearings/uni-pivot/straight line trackers etc,all have their followings. You really can make a good case for either of them.
Stay with the lowest resonant bearing design, with a good over-all design concept, and one that has been around, and perfected for awhile, and you will have your winner.BTW---usually damping(laterally)is NOT desireable sonically.
Good luck!
