Mint Tractor

I'm sorry, I apologize, please forgive me for doubting all of you who have told me of the need for the Mint Protractor. I got it today, and just did a quick check to find that the cartridge is indeed off set up with the VPI protractor that comes with the Supercout/10.5i. I read the directions and it is a very tedious, and slow going procedure, so I'll get back in a while and tell you if I hear any differences.

Any digital scale should be satisfactory. I use the Audio Additives and like it. It was $99. I doubt spending more than that gets you anything extra. This is harder with a 9 sig than the 10.5i with the VTA adjustment knob, but the VTF measurement really should be done with the arm level to the platter. This means raising the back for the measurement. If you fold an index card lengthwise exactly you can put it next to the arm and it's a lot easier to tell if that tapered arm is level(ala Stringreen). Then of course, level the arm back to record level when done. VTA is hard enough to change on the 9 sig that you'll probably have the best and easiest results just leveling the arm to 180 gm record range and leaving it there. As long as azimuth is still reasonably close, you're then ready to align with the Mint tractor. And on and on it goes but it's worth it.
Sonofjim, regarding the annoying(looking)marks left by "Scotch Tape"....

First off, "painters tape" does not have as good an adhesive, and can easily dislodge if you're not careful.Yet,it is very good in many scenarios(don't buy the el-cheapo stuff).

The problem with the vast majority of "Scotch Tape" products,is they are usually NOT "Scotch Tape",and dirt cheap imitators.

"Scotch Tape" is made by 3M company, whose products are superb, and the tapes stick/hold better than competitors.

However, the actual glue which on other brands can leave an ugly layer behind, does not have the propensity to do that. The adhesive IS superior, and designed to stay on the tape itself.

Good luck
Hey Guys, several weeks ago when I aligned my cartridge and VPI JMW 9 on a Scout with Super Platter, using a MintLP, I inserted three foam rubber wedges in a triangular fashion around the platter between it and the plinth and they held it in place with no problem. These wedges are the ones that women use to put make up on their faces .
Palasr and DougDeacon,

Agree regarding NOT having to secure a high mass platter including the Mint.
However I did anyway, per Yips instruction and for reasons Tvad points out.

For those whom skill level is not up there with Palasr, Doug and others , just follow the instructions and tips in Yips excellent manual. You will get there.

My guess with inherently less tracing errors with 12 inch arms, Minting a good one should have mind blowing results.

For those that have a table that will accommodate more then one arm.
Anyone here Mint more then one arm on their table specifically a 12 inch-er?
