The best speaker you ever heard?

In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.

I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?

I used to be a BOSE FANATIC in the 80's but the only reason is because i could never AFFORD the INFINITY RS series which today is the best ever designed loudspeaker systems when infinity used to make high end speaker systems. They were revolutionary. Until I came across planars and electrostats and ribbon driven loudspeakers, I thought back then bose 901's stacked was awesome and always trying to figure out how come the BASS sounded so fake??? it's not even DEEP bass but mid scattered bass and as far as high extension? what high extension. I never really heard a piano sound like a piano and cymbals sound like cymbals. I heard more reverberation which I thought at the time as being TRUE ORCHESTRA when in reality it's like sitting in the back of the THEATER. when I heard magnepans, ohm walsh, ess heils, eminent tech, martin logans etc. That's when I found real good sounding speakers that are lifelike. Like most Bose fanatics, unless you experience REAL well made designs, you will continue in your DELUSION that bose is a great speaker, I certainly did until I got UNBRAINWASHED!

You have been crowing about this for weeks now here and on Audio Asylum. I will be glad when this review gets published so you can either have your day in the sun, or slither away.....

Best I have ever heard came WAY back in the day, courtesy of Sound-Lab A1s, driven by some of the Atma-Sphere four-chassis monsters. I remember two things from that experience: the sound, and the heat in the room.
