Oil For Nottingham Spacedeck?

Is it safe and effective to use any other oil (and preferably less expensive) besides the oil from Nottingham in the bearing well of the table that the platter settles into? I just purchased a used Spacedeck and am going through it to make sure all is as it should be.

Thanks

Generally with any turntable platter bearing(s) you can use a few drops of Dextron automatic transmission fluid with no worries!
Don't do it. You don't want to take a risk. So yes I paid about $100 for a small bottle. Other oils may be safe too, but you cannot know it. Besides, the table might sound better with the oil specifically formulated for the bearing.
I agree with Inna. I tried other fluids in my spacedeck. But nothing sounded as good as the Nott oil. And I could definitely hear a difference.

Paying $100 for a bottle of motor oil reminds me those audiophile green felt tip pens! After 25+ yrs in this hobby I wish my ears were so fine-tuned as to be able to hear the difference in oil!!! Since the OP just purchased the TT, I'd LOVE for him to do a listening test and report his conclusions.
