Odd rock trivia-Who knew?

Wandering thru the garage band thread inspired a little Wikipedia session that revealed these two quirky bits of trivia:

The original "second guitar" to Eric Clapton in Derek and the Dominos was not Duane Allman. It was Dave Mason. Mason is a very capable player, but... Somehow, it's hard for me to imagine what that band would have sounded like without the switch to DA.

And

Ed King, of Lynyrd Skynyrd, was a founding member of Strawberry Alarm Clock (Incense and Peppermints). Talk about a strange stylistic shift.

Who knew?

I only found out about the Ed King story in the last few years. I knew about him from SAC but had not known he was in Skynyrd. I had the first two SAC LPs and saw them live once. They were good.

It does seem as if Derek and the Dominos would have been a lesser band overall with Mason rather than Duane. He was a good singer/songwriter, though. Who wouldn't want "Feeling Alright" on their resume?
I went to school with the SAC bassist's brother. We had homeroom together, poor kid had the worst case of sinus allergies I ever saw, honestly I don't know how he delt with it. Now a days he probably takes a pill for it but back in the 60's you just lived with it
from allmusic: From late August to early October, they recorded the celebrated double album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (November 1970) with guitarist Duane Allman sitting in.

They do not mention Dave Mason however...
