Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD

Hi All.

Putting together a reference level system.
My Source is predominantly standard 16/44 played from a MacMini using iTunes and Amarra. Some of my music is purchased from iTunes and the rest is ripped from standard CD's.
For my tastes in music, my high def catalogues are still limited; so Redbook 16/44 will be my primary source for quite some time.

I'm not spending DCS or MSB money. But $15-20k retail is not out of the question.

Upsampling vs non-upsampling?
USB input vs SPDIF?

All opinions welcome.

And I know I need to hear them, but getting these ultra $$$ DAC's into your house for an audition ain't easy.

Looking for musical, emotional, engaging, accurate , with great dimension. Not looking for analytical and sterile.

UPDATE: (That was quick. Lol.)

Ok, so I shot out a bunch of emails to see if I can arrange some additional auditions. Emails were sent to companies that I received high volume PM's for DAC's & Transport/DAC's to include in the shoutout.

I have already heard back from two that are interested and checking into product availability.

I'll keep you posted.
Awsome!, Thanks Matt, I understand that the ODSE is it, no problem from me at all, just saying, we should all pitch in one way or the other to keep the shoot out rolling, maybe someone else out there can chime in on some comparison findings between two or more digital products, I have learned more than I can read about in magazines from here, and it's fun to interact with whats going on that you cannot do with a magazine!
Agear, yes I did guess wrong it seems, but we will see in five years.

I have several comments. One is that I know you can get the old Tripoint Troys for a very good price, but I recently got a Troy Signature and will tell you that it is far superior, especially with the Troy SE grounding cables. I didn't say, however, that it wasn't more expensive.

Then there is the Tripoint Emperor which is outrageously expensive but to believe the AE show in Hong Kong reports just unbelievable.

I would also recommend that you listen to the BMC PureVox speakers.

With regard to your comment about the Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'm soon to be 76 so I don't wait for anything.

...there have been a lot fewer "quantum leap" products than the industry will care to admit...

true, true. particularly in the digital domain.

.... I want to work on a dedicated listening room - which will give me WAY bigger SQ improvements then changing my DAC.

I think that is wise. When my room was completed, I plopped a Bestbuy grade test system in there, and I was more taken by it versus my silly audiophile grade rig.

Congrats Matt on your spirit of experimentation here. I have been in that mode furiously for over two years and have lost my mojo a little due to fatigue. I did really want to hear your comparison of the tubed entities (ODSE, Lampi, Romulus), but oh well. Either way, you win. Congrats....
