Amp or phono pre + pre for better sound?

Ok, I am trying to decide whether to get the Accuphase A-65 amp first or the C-2420 pre + C-27 first from my dealer. I can't afford all 3 units at once. Which unit would make the most positive difference in sound?

Currently I am using the Bryston amp (4BSST) and Bryston preamp (BP6P)

I know this is a compromise, but it's the best i can do...

JBL S4700 speakers.

My system is displayed here in that part of the forum under "Done for Now."

Thanks for your time and help!

Yes, preamp first. And make sure it has a good phono stage or buy an outboard phono pre...Your current amp is plenty good enough to soldier on with for a while...

Syntax: Thanks for the detailed explanation. Much appreciated. I'll make a note of what you said and go from there.

Rlwainright: Ok, thanks. Yes, I am buying the outboard phono stage with the preamp, the C-27.

Anyway, I will take all of this into consideration and make my move accordingly. Thanks for all of the help so far. If you have anything to add, please do so.
Preamp always made a bigger difference in any system I have had and the phono is the most important!
Ok, thanks to you too. Just to let all of you know, the pre + phono package is approx. $3k more than the amp alone. Which is one of the reasons why I'm leaning towards getting the amp.
It looks like I'm getting the phono preamp first. I'll keep all of you posted...thanks again. Any more comments are welcome.
