Amp for Quad ESL 57

The most extensive "trial" of amps for Quads (originals and Wayne Picquet modded )I have heard of was done a couple years ago by Robin Wyatt, of Robyatt Audio, and a couple of his friends - Gary Krakow, the tech columnist for MSNBC and David Chesky of Chesky Records. They tried about two dozen amps including many of the usual suspects - Music Reference, Berning, Quad, ARC, VTL, Bedini, etc.. The favorite amp was the very expensive ASR Emitter I Exclusiv Blue, but the second favorite amp was a relatively inexpensive modified Rogue Atlas (bigger power supply, upgraded parts) using EH KT90 output tubes. I know this thread is a little old but i thought I'd add to the on-line data base.

I just loaded new PK panels into my frames and fired them up. (Not my first experience with Wayne's panels).

My Musical Fidelity A300 integrated is not only stable with the load but also sounds excellent.

Strongly suggest checking web for ESE Lab which is the best I ever heard. Among other is designed and matched with quad ESL 57.

Great thread. I am currently looking to purchase a pair of ESL's (57). I have a pair of McIntosh MC30's and was wondering what everyone thought about using the 30's to drive the ESL's. I'm thinking the midrange magic of the 30's would be a great match for the ESL's?

Should work well. I use to use a Dynaco Stereo 35 in the 60s on them and the Mac should do at least as well, power makes little difference as they don't use much but big amps can also sound very good if used carefully. The 8B in triode mode was suppose to work very well but I never had them at the same time.
