I have not compared the Berkeley to the Theta, and I have not heard the Theta in a few years to be honest, but I did compare the Berkeley to the Bryston, and I bought the Bryston and sold the Berkeley.
I thought the Bryston, while not a minutely detailed, was a bit warmer (what I am always looking for with my rig) and had a bigger soundstage.
I do remember the Theta being very nice. But I only ever heard it with discs, never digital files.
