NAD classic power amps good, great or mediocre

I bought new in 86-7 a 2200 and the 1155 preamp.All I drove were Bose 901's for a couple years.Then I brought home a few different speakers like these big ADS and some Yamaha NS10M and something else.One day I brought home a Nakamichi CA5 preamp and it was like a blanket was lifted off the speakers.Then I went to Threshold,Levinson,Bryston etc.I would not go far to get these particular models.Everyone here has their own story,so good luck and MC,Bob

How much do you want to spend? That will help determine the best bang for your buck.

NAD will work in the more modern era......5 years or newer.

What is your source (cd player, server, etc.)?

And if you let this community know your budget.....they can help. I have had amps from $400-$4000.

I had an NAD 2200PE for a few years, along with an Audire Model 2.  In comparing the two, both are exceptionally clean, but the NAD did not separate the instruments in space, at all.  The Audire did.

When I found an Audire Forte, I got rid of the NAD, which had just been repaired again.  The tech, the well known McIntosh factory warranty repairman Terry Wyrick, told me the NAD had owners that have two great days, the day they buy it and the day they get rid of it.  I replaced the NAD with an Audire Forte, and later replaced the Model 2 with a second Forte, both of which now drive my B&W 803's (Audire Diffet 3 preamp).

Don't waste your money on the NAD. It is better than a lot of amps, but not a big deal, and certainly not worth paying anyone to repair it.
