07-18-13: Mechans
Consider yourself lucky. I know a verfy well respected speaker repair guy who dreads fixing walsh speakers. If these ply enjoy them.
The OP's original post explained that these are 2-way bookshelf speakers and therefore do not use Walsh drivers. The Ohm bookshelf speakers (with conventional woofer and tweeter) were pretty good. If they're functional at $20 of course they're worth buying. If the woofers have rotting foam surrounds, they're still worth buying because re-foaming is a cheap and easy fix.
If the speakers are shot, talk 'em down to $5-10, in which case they're easily worth it for the enclosures. Then buy new drivers from PartsExpress, Madisound, or Zalytron.
Note to the OP: Are the thrift shop speakers something like
this?
