My current favorites are Eva Cassidy's "The water is wide" and "Autumn Leaves", Kiki Dee's "Take my breath away" and Ella Fitzgerald's "Angel eyes" and "Lush life".
Would agree with most all the examples mentioned. Hands down, the songbird I want singing me into the hereafter is Christine McVie. If her solo "For You" doesn't move you you're already in the next world.
Allison Moorer, sister of Shelby Lynne. Great Voice, face and body. She has it all, but still really an unknown artist. Just picked up the SACD "Show" fantastic live album. The track with Shelby titled, " Going Down" is a real rocker.
