"UP DATE" My great deal just got better, I recently bought a VPI motor and speed box from Brooks Berdan and had them fine tune it to my Musical Life Basic TT. This up grade is a termondous improvement. While attempting to have the original motor-unit repaired I was told that the Musical Life Basic uses a generic brand cassette deck motor and they could not track one down because the part nunber had been removed for some strange reason. Although the motor-unit is not attached to the TT body it in my opinion it is the week link to what I believe is wonderfuly crafted TT. A cassette motor is not designed for the task of powering such a heavy plater as this TT has while at the same time maintaing a percise speed for long periods of listing. What seemed to be a major design flaw turned out to be a blessing in disguise. My VPI runs like a fine tuned swiss watch the motor is incased in a 20 pound block of staineless steel and unlike the Musical Like motor-unit it is as quiet as a mouse trapped in a lions den. Once set the speed box does its job superbly. My TT came with a 1,200 Clearaudio Satify tone arm no cartridge but it had been beautifully maintained. I payed 800 for the TT and 500 for the VPI motor and speed box the TT itself with a good original "cassettemotor-unit" and tone arm sales for around 2,000. For those of you that have run into Musical Life motor-unit issues try what I did believe me you will have a awesome sounding TT.
