vintage cd player Get a pioneer elite PD65 for a transport &/or complete CD player and if you want near state of the art performance on a budget, have John Hillig update it with blackgate capacitors etc.
How good are recievers these days? You will probably not like the D amps used in receivers. The old pioneer elite receivers such as the TXI 56 (on sale on ebay for ($250-300) will sound better & be more stable. However, I have maggies and get great sound out of the luxman. The ...
How good are recievers these days? If you can find a good used Luxman R117 receiver (real 160 watts/ch 8 ohms & stable to 2 ohms) it has an excellent amp and tuner and a good if not great pre-amp for about $300-400. Their M117 amp is also good to 2 ohms as is the receiver &...
good integrated amp for around $500 Try a vintage luxman R117 receiver (160 watts/ch) or the R115 (70 watts/ch) if you can find one that has been checked out. The volume pots can go bad but if you get a good R117 ($275-380)or R115 ($150-200) it will run most anything even Magnepan 1...
Good inexpensive temporary speakers Proac studio monitors can run you $1400. If you are just looking for temporary speakers why not buy a used pair? You can get a pair of celestion SL6si for around $400-500 if you want small monitors or magnepan 1,6QRs if you have the room (need 4-5...
Cheapest good sounding dvd player? You can go on Ebay and get a near mint Denon 2910 player (make sure it has the remote) for $100-125. If you want HDMI connections look for a Denon 2930 progressive scan DVD player for $125-150. Check the buyer's feedback and ebay guarantee and wat...
Preamp for magepan 3.7 and Sanders amp combo You might want to try a lector zoe (easy tube rolling). I used one with my magnepan 1.6 speakers and they added the correct missing tonality for many instruments. I believe you need tubes somewhere in your front end equipment. I'm sure other fine ...
Lector Zoe I like the lector zoe pre amp. It added the texture that was missing from my SS preamp. Easy to tube roll. Price for a used preamp should be in the $900-1200 range. I have no experience with the lector amps.

Magnepan 1.6 speakers I expect at 200 watts into 4 0hms that the cambridge is sufficient for jazz and vocals but underpowered for large orchestral music. My suggestions for 1.6 magnepans from less expensive to more expensive are: Luxman R117 receiver ($300 used), Class...
Magneplanar 1.7s to Recruit New Audiophile? If you are going to add additional surround sound speakers to the Magnepan 1.7's, the system could be difficult to set up properly as setting up just the 1.7's properly won't be easy especially if your room isn't large enough. For home theater you...
Magneplanar 1.7s to Recruit New Audiophile? Maggies need a lot of room (at least 3-4' from the back wall and 2-3'from the side walls) and IMHO lots of power & propper placement to sound good. If you don't have the room get other speakers. Used 1.6 speakers should be considered as well a...
Best surprisingly good value component Luxman R117 receiver bought used for less than $300 runs my maggies almost as well as my threshold. Silent audio (seem to be out of business) Apollo interconnects at $50/pair out performed many ICs costing 5 times as much.
Pass or ARC Integrated for Maggie 1.7's I have run my 1.6's with threshold 4000,luxman R117, and both were fine with a bit more headroom with the threshold. You might want to try an innersound esl 300 mark2. I liked adding a tube pre amp (lector zoe)as the tubes gave a proper timbre to ...
Magnepan Owners - Need Your Thoughts Please If you want to run your 1.6 QR speakers on the cheap with excellent sound try a vintage luxman R117 receiver. You can often find one for around $250-$275 on Ebay. If you want to spend more try an innersound esl amp or classe. |
