AKM makes the best DACs
The thread probably started when the parts were announced. Then AKM had their fire which rather set things back. Now seems they've recovered.
AKM makes the best DACs
I suspect Taobao doesn't want people visiting who aren't logged in. I uploaded a couple of pics here : https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/ak4191eq.350733/post-7170781
AKM makes the best DACs
I see AKM have a new  4499 EX chip out which separates the digital from the analogue. Actually a pair of chips. Taobao is showing 'Vezzoso' product using this chipset, pricing ~$1k : https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.13.356b7aa0li...
Will upsampling of new DAC make lossy sound as good as Lossless
It’s my understanding that the purpose of upsampling is not to create new and/or better data, but to move the digital filtering to a much higher frequency so that the steep slope of the filter does not affect the audio band upon conversion to ana...

Once information is thrown out it can't be recovered, so definitely no.
Glare on Choral recordings, classical vocals
My experience mirrors that of @mahler123 - improving my DAC reduced the congestion at higher levels on choral material.
Too many choices for R2R DACS--opinions appreciated
I'll be replacing a DAC that I actually really like, an Abbingdon Music Research DP-777 According to AMR's blurb that has a multibit 16bit DAC. Which nowadays is encompassed by the term 'R2R'.
What defines mid-fi versus high-end?
If the speakers don't disappear, its mid-fi at best.
How do you judge audio components and speakers?
Am I drawn in to the performance being presented to me?
Tron Atlantic dac disrupts both Audiophile and The Audiophile’s Wife.
I wonder what I/V conversation approach he chose.  Given its a discrete R2R topology, there may not be any need for I/V. He could be using a voltage-out configuration.
Single Ended DAC vs Dual Differential XLR DAC
GIven twice the number of DAC chips in the dual differential DAC then the likelihood is it will sound better because the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) will be higher than with a single DAC per channel. How much better though is dependent on the impl...
I2s DSD
I have a few hundred SACDs.  My Oppo players output  the DSD layer over HDMI.  My Bryston DAC3 has HDMI inputs.  It sounds amazing and so far Sony hasn't sent a SWAT team to haul me off to a Penitentiary. HDMI is probably encrypted (HDCP) which...
DAC connection: which type gives highest fidelity?
USB async would be the highest fidelity but for the fact that USB sources are often very noisy. Isolation is key and not all USB interfaces have that. Coax normally does though, but it'll be higher jitter than async USB.
Why the hate for mcintosh amps?
it’s like bridging if you need more power, wrong. You just reminded me of a third good reason for using a trafo - bridging halves the effective impedance. A trafo brings it back to normal again.Needless to say I don't share your moral view of ...
Why the hate for mcintosh amps?
But there is no good reason to put an output transformer on a "good" solid state amplifier, it can only make it’s performance worse. If 'performance' means THD numbers then yeah I would agree. However if 'performance' means SQ then I can think ...
