VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Harry prefers and recommends no anti-skating, and I, after listening for a year with anti-skating engaged as a principle, now also prefer the sound without anti-skating once I gave it a listen. Perhaps the rigidity of the tonearm wire provides eno...
I would advise to avoid amazon for vinyl purchases I think Sam Tellig from Stereophile reported the exact same problem with Amazon a while ago. He was talking about purchasing directly from Amazon, not a private vendor, which makes sense as it'd be unfair to blame Amazon for something they have no...
VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Bifwynne,Slight changes in the azimuth are normal across the record as any warps, however slight, will alter the angle at which the cartridge interfaces with the record's surface. In my opinion, I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect to be abl...
VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Bifwynne,How did you determine that the azimuth changed?
What do you think of the new "Simply Vinyl" albums They are a joke. I emailed them and they gave me a half-assed explanation why virtually all of their records are out of stock, which made no sense. No point in discussing this further, in my opinion.
Supertramp Bianchi, Your post makes no sense. "Crime of the Century" and "Breakfast in America" belong to a category I'd label as perfect. And they sound absolutely amazing. I'm glad to hear that Supertramp fans like other records outside of the two I mentio...
Digital microscope recommendations I don't think you need a stationary microscope to check for stylus wear. I certainly don't want to dismount my cartridge to check for wear. Many of the Dino-Lite microscopes will serve both purposed just fine.
Vote for Rush for hall of fame I echo most of the sentiments in this thread. With an open mind I tried to give Rush a chance but their music is just plain mediocre at best. I can't understand their long-lived popularity. Individual musicianship is of high quality for sure, but ...
VPI Classic hum What was the problem with the motor?
Help-Bent Benz cantilever need advice First of all, what were the seller's representations regarding the cartridge? Sounds like you bought it without actually seeing it first, so the seller should have disclosed this defect. The cantilever does look pretty off-center.
I wrote Robert Majewski about his recording . . . Ptmconsulting,Indeed, a name like "Majewski" is pretty common in Poland so the chance of you two being related is pretty slim. I know as I grew up there. But just by virtue of your mother having the same name you might get favorable treatment :)
Miles Davis Yeah, I agree with these observations. I think the concept is very interesting and the selection is beyond reproach. But the sound is just not as good as on the original albums. Why the hell did they have to mess with digital on this?!
Miles Davis For some reason the rest of the thread title got cut off. The set is Miles Davis - The Columbia Years 1955-1985. It's a 5-record compilation organized by themes rather than chronology - blues, standards, originals, moods, and electric.
VPI Classic hum I've had my Classic I with the Valhalla wiring, and a Lyra Delos for over two years now, and after three or four different interconnects across my system, three different speaker cables, two different phono preamps, a line preamp and power amp upg...
Great Music to Intro Non-Audiophiles to the Hobby I agree with the two post above, but arguably there is some well-known music out there that sounds great and would most likely impress even non-audiophiles. Here are a few suggestions from my collection:Carole King "The Carnegie Hall Concert" on M... |
